Tell us about a time when you felt out of place.
Everyone, at some point, experiences a situation where they feel they don’t quite belong.
For me, one such moment happened when I attended a formal event for the very first time.
It was a business conference, filled with professionals in suits, carrying themselves with great confidence and expertise.
I had been invited as a participant, but as soon as I entered the hall, I felt completely out of place.
Most of the people there were talking in technical terms and networking smoothly with one another.
I, on the other hand, was dressed more casually and wasn’t sure how to join the conversations.
While others exchanged business cards and discussed projects, I stood quietly, wondering if I even deserved to be in that room.
The environment felt intimidating, and for a moment, I thought about leaving.
However, as the event went on, I reminded myself that I was there to learn, not to compete.
Instead of forcing myself into conversations, I focused on listening carefully to the speakers.
Slowly, I began to realize that even though I wasn’t as experienced as others, I could still gain knowledge and grow from the opportunity.
By the end of the event, I managed to interact with a few people, ask questions, and even exchange contacts.
Looking back, that feeling of being out of place actually taught me something important — growth begins outside of our comfort zone.
Though the beginning was uncomfortable, it pushed me to adapt, observe, and eventually gain confidence.
Now, whenever I feel out of place, I remind myself that it’s just part of the journey toward becoming better.
